Dolphin poster competition
August 2004

The results of the poster competition organised by Cetacea Defence,
the Marine Connection and the Captive Animals' Protection Society
are now in!
The competition, designed to commemorate and mourn the death of
all the captive dolphins born out of the popular 1960s 'Flipper'
TV series, coincided with the 40th anniversary of the TV show.
We asked people to design artwork to convey to others that the
dolphins they see in these animal circuses are caricatures of their
real selves and how essential it is to never pay to see captive
wildlife.
We would like to thank everyone who entered the competition.

THE WINNING DESIGNS
The winner of the Under 16 category was 7 year old Miranda Shaw
from Canada who not only designed a great poster but has shown a
real awareness about the cruelty of captivity and is already an
activist for animals.
Miranda won a cuddly dolphin and a dolphin adoption with The
Marine Connection's Adopt A Dolphin programme.
The winner of the Over 16 and Overall Winner was Simon Parkin
from Sussed Design with a clever and original design (see above).
It may take a few seconds to understand the design, but the judges
found that it certainly has a long lasting impact.
Simon won a wood carving of a dolphin, donated by Cetacea Defence,
and his winning design will soon be offered as a t-shirt available
from CAPS - keep an eye on our website for details.
