Protest against wild bird sales
Archive - November 2003
Animal Aid has organised protests against the largest sale of wild
birds in the UK - due to take place in early December.
The National Cage and Aviary Birds exhibition will be held at the
National Exhibition Centre near Birmingham on Saturday 6th and Sunday
7th December. Last year an estimated 70,000 birds were on sale and
an expert ornithologist estimated that 50,000 of them would have
been caught in the wild.
CAPS investigators last year filmed conditions
at the fair and joined Animal Aid and Birds First in lobbying
Solihull Council to prevent the fair going ahead again, but the
Council has licensed the sale this year.
