'Animal Extravaganza' outcry
April 2006
Residents of Bermuda have again contacted CAPS for help after
another animal circus announced it would visit the island.
We first got involved in 2003 when the
Tarzan Zerbini Circus arrived in Bermuda in December with three
Asian elephants, a white tiger and four dogs after a 3-day sea journey.
In
the latest situation, the same promotion company has planned an
'Animal Extravaganza' in May. Posters for the event picture a polar
bear, elephants and tigers.
In an attempt to deflect criticism, the show is promoted as being
educational and teaching about conservation. The last place one
will ever learn about the natural behaviour of a wild animal is
in a performance such as this, whether it is called a circus or
an 'extravaganza'.
