Incredibly, it’s still legal to breed, sell and keep primates as pets in the UK and it is estimated that over 3,000 are kept, some in garden sheds or small cages. CAPS campaigns against the use of primates in the entertainment industries, including the exotic pet trade. We are now working with the Monkey Sanctuary Trust (www.monkeysanctuarytrust.org) to provide a life-long home for rescued capuchin monkeys, Barbary macaques, patas monkeys and Amazonian woolly monkeys, in the trust’s wonderful sanctuary in Looe, Cornwall.
